“The Voices and Faces Project’s writing workshop helped me transform the pain of sexual violence into a fuel that can change the world.”
Every sexual violence survivor story has power and purpose.

Ruby Edmonton Workshop
With that belief as our guide, The Voices and Faces Project launched "The Stories We Tell," North America's first two-day testimonial writing program for survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence and trafficking. Since piloting the program at the Chicago Cultural Center in 2011, our workshop has been offered over a dozen times in cities across North America.

Why testimonial writing? By using our stories in service to not only personal but also political transformation, we become more effective change agents. During "The Stories We Tell," workshop participants read and discuss history's most compelling and world-changing testimonial writing - including works by Sandra Cisneros, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, Jr., Primo Levi, and Adrienne Rich - while taking part in a series of innovative real-time writing exercises. We read, we write and we work together to create change through the power of our stories.

It's not just about the past. It's about the future. During "The Stories We Tell," workshop participants look back at social movements that have changed the world, while looking forward to the changes they can make by sharing their own testimonies. This is a workshop that is as purposeful as it is powerful - a way to use your own voice to create a more just and fair world.

Can the stories of survivors change the world? Talking testimony on Canadian Public Radio.
R. Clifton Spargo
As part of our "Project Canada" initiative – an expansion of our testimonial writing workshop and lecture series in Canada – our workshop co-creators Anne K. Ream and R. Clifton Spargo recently sat down with Canadian public radio (CBC) to discuss the ways that survivor storytelling is changing the movement to end gender-related violence. Special thanks to the trustees at the Donner Canadian Foundation who have made our workshop and lectures series expansion possible.
