The Stories We Tell, The Voices and Faces Project's immersive, two-day testimonial writing workshop for survivors of gender-based violence and other human rights violations, is returning to Simmons Center for Global Chicago this November. During the workshop a cohort of emerging and established writers and activists will come together to read and discuss culture-changing literature from across history and social justice movements… take part in a series of innovative, real-time writing exercises… and share their work in moderated, trauma-informed workshopping sessions. Led by novelist and Yale University creative writing instructor R. Clifton Spargo, an alum of the acclaimed Iowa Writers' Workshop, this award-winning writing program isn't just developing writers. It's changing lives. Workshop application period will open in August; watch this space for details. And thank you, Brabson Foundation, for your generous support of our Chicago program.

The humans who feed us don't only deserve our gratitude. They deserve safe and violence-free workplaces and a living wage — the basic but vital things that allow food workers to live lives that are as rewarding as the moments they create on our plates. The fight for food justice is at the heart of our Voices and Faces Project allyship with Justice for Migrant Women, one of our longest standing storytelling partners. During a James Beard Awards Week dinner hosted by Justice for Migrant Women, organization founder Monica Ramirez , board member Diana Ochoa, and Voices and Faces Project founder Anne K. Ream — who also serves as the Justice for Migrant Women board president — came together to honor an extraordinary delegation of food justice warriors who are driving this much-needed movement. We encourage you to support their efforts!

Our stories are our power.
At The Voices and Faces Project we’re using them to create change. |
The Voices and Faces Project is an award-winning non-profit storytelling initiative created to bring the names, faces, and testimonies of survivors of gender-based violence to the attention of the public. Through our educational and advocacy trainings, survivor story archive and signature program, The Stories We Tell — an immersive, two-day testimonial writing workshop for those who have lived through or witnessed gender-based violence or other human rights violations — we seek to change minds, hearts, and public policies through the power of personal testimony. The Voices and Faces Project has been named one of America's Best Charities by the board of Independent Charities of America, and is a registered 501c3 organization.
