We'll explore how history's — and today's — iconic and lesser-known leaders have used narrative to create social change in "Our Stories Are Our Power," a #CEE2024 workshop series.

Powerful storytellers are powerful change creators. We’re exploring why, and how, athrough a workshop series in partnership with The U.S. Department of State and IREX. |

Supporting the next generation of global activists as they think in new ways about the power, purpose and ethics of storytelling is at the heart of our narrative justice work at The Voices and Faces Project.
This week, we're heading to Washington, DC to partner with IREX in support of their U.S Department of State sponsored Community Engagement Exchange Program (CEE). The CEE program was designed to enable a select, global cohort of civil society leaders to deepen their skills and knowledge base, serving as more effective advocates and leaders when they return to the countries in which they work and live.
As part of our ongoing partnership with IREX, The Voices and Faces Project will bring one of our most popular narrative advocacy trainings, "Our Stories Are Our Power: The power, purpose and ethics of storytelling," to the CEE Fellows as they gather together in Washington, DC.
About "Our Stories Are Our Power: The power, purpose and ethics of storytelling," a
mult-media presentation and moderated discussion. |
Survivors of gender-based violence and other human rights violations are increasingly using
their names, faces, and stories to change legal and social responses to social injustice. How do
we make the most of, and build on, this moment? In "Our Stories Are Our Power," The Voices
and Faces Project's Aimee Bravo-Noffsinger and Anne K. Ream will:
- Explore ways that storytelling and testimony have created political change
across history and social justice movements;
- Consider the unique role that storytelling has played in the movement to end gender-based violence, even before the #MeToo era;
- Think critically about the ethics of sharing or representing the stories we have witnessed, particularly in our increasingly interconnected, globalized world;
- Speak to lessons we can learn from iconic movement leaders and opinion shapers (Bob Dylan, Dolores Huerta, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King, Jr.), contemporary change creators (novelist Dorothy Allison, global hip hop star Sister Fa), and the international community of gender based violence leaders Anne has collaborated with through her work with The Voices and Faces Project.
We can't wait to be in community with the CEE Fellows, and look forward to our workshop series in DC. To bring "Our Stories Are Our Power" to your own NGO, email janet@voicesandfaces.org

Our stories are our power.
At The Voices and Faces Project we’re using them to create change. |
The Voices and Faces Project is an award-winning non-profit storytelling initiative created to bring the names, faces, and testimonies of survivors of gender-based violence to the attention of the public. Through our educational and advocacy trainings, survivor story archive and signature program, The Stories We Tell — an immersive, two-day testimonial writing workshop for those who have lived through or witnessed gender-based violence or other human rights violations — we seek to change minds, hearts, and public policies through the power of personal testimony. The Voices and Faces Project has been named one of America's Best Charities by the board of Independent Charities of America, and is a registered 501c3 organization.
